Demolition day

Demolition Day

I missed the main chimney/entire living room brick wall coming down, but managed to catch this moment. The house is mostly down, the last of the ash trees and cherry logs from last years storm, which are being used for flooring and cabinets, were removed today. That's 17 trees total (!), including the ash trees, which of course would have been destroyed by the emerald ash borer in the next few years if we hadn't decided to turn them into woodwork for our home first!

Demolition also included testing of water from the old pumphouse well, which turns out to be clear, clean, and delicious--we toasted with it at our latest LEED meeting with the builder, architects, and our daughter Annika, who is helping with the website for the house.

Foundation next week? (Ha ha.) Design still in process! By next year we'll be inviting folks to come by and help us create new memories together, hopefully just as sweet as the old.

Mary Florence
